Your gown, fitted to you alone

A wedding gown is bought off a rack in a standard size and then made yours. That second half is our work — and it is the part that decides how the dress looks in every photograph.

We have been altering bridal gowns on Fenton Street for over four decades, including gowns other shops turned away. Every bride starts with a free fitting, and expedited service is available when the date will not move.

  • Bodice taken in or let out
  • Hem and train shortening
  • Bustle fitted for the reception
  • Straps, sleeves and neckline
  • Beading and lace re-worked by hand
  • Cups, boning and lining added
  • Bridesmaid & mother-of-the-bride dresses
  • Rush and same-week service

Scott and his team were really great! He took me at the last minute after my initial tailor no showed for our appointment. I had 5 dresses altered for my wedding and surrounding events and my sister had her maid of honor dress altered and everything turned out excellent! I really appreciate the customer service and patience that was shown during this stressful and nerve wracking time.

Took my wedding dress here on a whim after a more expensive place in Bethesda told me it was basically unfixable. They found a really simple solution that worked really well and did an overall great job. Plus the prices are super reasonable. 100% would recommend them!

Bridal alteration FAQs

Most brides start their first fitting six to eight weeks before the wedding, with a final fitting the week of the ceremony. That said, we take last-minute work regularly — several of our brides have come to us days before the date after another shop let them down. If your wedding is close, call us on (301) 585-4550 and we will tell you honestly whether we can do it.

Two to three is typical. The first is a free fitting where we pin the gown and agree on the work. The second checks the changes on your body. A third is sometimes needed for heavily beaded gowns or if your measurements change before the day.

Yes. Bustling is one of the most common bridal alterations we do — it lifts the train off the floor for the reception so you can move and dance. We will show you the bustle styles that suit your train and let you choose.

Yes. Beaded bodices and lace overlays need the beading removed and hand-reapplied along the new seam so the alteration is invisible. This is skilled hand work and it is exactly what four decades of practice is for.

Tell us at the first fitting if you expect your measurements to change. We schedule the final fitting close to the date for that reason, and we leave seam allowance where the fabric permits so the gown can be adjusted again.

Yes, and it is usually easier to have the whole party altered in one place. One of our brides had five dresses altered with us for her wedding and surrounding events, plus her sister’s maid of honor dress.
